TLC Housing Services

TLC Housing Services is based within TLC College and was set up to provide Refugees with housing related support. From Mar 2010, we added another dimension to our service and we now support Refugees as well as New Migrants with housing related support issues.

We are funded by the Wolverhampton City Council’s Supported Housing Team (formerly Supporting People) and liase with accommodation providers regardless as to whether they are Local Authority, Private landlords or RSL’s.

Service Provided:

  • advice and advocacy
  • support with settlement into accommodation
  • health and safety advice
  • utility bills
  • how to use domestic appliances safely
  • financial budgeting etc
  • assist with documentation
  • job search
  • education and training
  • how to access local services with a view to making them independent.
  • help our clients to integrate into the local community and become good citizens by educating them to understand local cultures and teaching them social skills. We hope that by understanding British culture, our clients will find fewer barriers against living independent lives. It also reduces their dependency on state aid.

Our advisors aim to achieve the above by providing the appropriate level of support required by the client (subject to funding). We liase with Wolverhampton City Council, Housing Associations, Refugee and Migrant centre, community organisations, service providers and other agencies. Our advisors are fluent in English and speak other languages relevant to the client, which is essential in the early days when the clients speak little or no English.

We aim for our support to be so effective that it motivates our clients to leave the programme within a three-month period. We want them to feel confident and be able to lead independent lives.
